SYMPTOMS

When you close a PowerPoint presentation, PowerPoint add-in files (.ppa ) that are referenced by the presentation in a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) project may unload. The add-ins are no longer displayed in the list of available add-ins in the Add-Ins dialog box. Because of this, you cannot reference the add-ins to use the add-in functions.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a PowerPoint add-in that is referenced by a presentation is unloaded when you close the presentation. The add-in is unloaded even when PowerPoint is still running.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
