Important This article contains information that shows you how to help lower security settings or how to turn off security features on a computer. You can make these changes to work around a specific problem. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this workaround in your particular environment. If you implement this workaround, take any appropriate additional steps to help protect the computer.

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Business Solutions Customer Relationship Management (Microsoft CRM), and then you try to start Microsoft Word, Word may prompt you with a security warning that resembles the following security warning:

CRSmartTag.dll

contains macros by
Crystal Decisions, Inc.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The security level is set to "high."
  • Smart Tags are enabled.

Microsoft CRM uses Crystal Reports for reporting functionality. An ActiveX Control object that is installed by Crystal Reports to provide Smart Tag support in Word has not been explicitly trusted. Therefore, you receive the security warning that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

To resolve and to prevent this problem, trust the macros from this source by using one of the following methods.

Method 1: Always trust macros from this source

When you receive the security warning, click to select the Always trust macros from this source check box in the Security Warning dialog box, and then click Enable Macros.

Method 2: Trust all installed add-ins and templates

Warning This workaround may make a computer or a network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.

To trust the macros that are included in the Crystal Reports Smart Tag (ActiveX) add-in, follow these steps, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running.

Microsoft Office Word 2007

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button[GRAPHIC: Microsoft Office Button ], and then click Word Options.
  2. In the Navigation Pane, click Trust Center.
  3. Under Microsoft Office Word Trust Center, click Trust Center Settings to open the Trust Center dialog box.
  4. In the Navigation Pane, click Macro Settings.
  5. Click Enable all macros (not recommended; potentially dangerous code can run), and then click OK two times.

Microsoft Word 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Macros, and then click Security.
  2. On the Trusted Sources tab, click to select the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box.
  3. To close the Security dialog box, click OK.
