SYMPTOMS

When many clients are connecting to services (such as Microsoft Exchange Server) that are running on a member server, several of the user authentication requests may time out. This problem occurs if the domain controllers are located across a slow link and are not located at the site that contains the member servers.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by the serialization of the SMB signing code in the redirector. Because of the serialization, the redirector causes delays in sending logon requests to the domain controllers. This eventually leads to authentication time-outs.
