SYMPTOMS

When you try to run the STSWiz.exe file from the Microsoft Project Server 2002 CD-ROM to installed Microsoft SharePoint Team Services, you may receive the following error message:

Unexpected error

CAUSE

This problem occurs because an outdated version of the Richtx32.ocx file is installed on the computer. Richtx32.ocx version 5.0.37.14, with a date of January 14, 1997, is known to cause this problem.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, replace and re-register Richtx32.ocx with the updated version that is provided on the Microsoft Project Server 2002 CD-ROM. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  3. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 /u Richtx32.ocx, and then press ENTER.

This unregisters the current version of Richtx32.ocx.

  1. Delete the Richtx32.ocx file from the windows\system32 folder, where windows is the folder that contains your Microsoft Windows 2000 installation.
  2. Copy the newer version of Richtx32.ocx from the \SUPPORT folder on the Microsoft Project Server 2002 CD-ROM to the windows\system32 folder.
  3. At the command prompt, type Regsvr32 \winnt\system32\richtx32.ocx, and then press ENTER.

This registers the Richtx32.ocx file

  1. Quit the command prompt.
  2. Run STSWiz.exe again.
