SUMMARY
If you attempt to create a font that was previously created with Bitstream Fontware, an error log will be created in the Fontware directory.
The error log will contain the error message
“Warning (311)” Overwriting LaserJet font file ‘<filename>’
when creating a printer driver for use with Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printers.
This message is merely precautionary, and is intended to notify you that files had to be overwritten to complete the building of the printer driver.
To access and view the error log, do the following:
From the fontware directory prompt, type “showlog” (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER (as in the following example):
C:>showlog
Some common warnings:
- Clipping warnings occur when a font is larger than your device normally permits. Some characters in the font will be distorted.
- Overwriting warnings occur when you have made the same font more than once.
If you have questions about the following messages, save a copy of FONTWARE.LOG for reference and call Bitstream Technical Support at (617) 497-7514. The following is an example of a Bitstream Fontware error log:
