Handouts/Notes Pages May Not Print Inverse Gray Scale PSS ID Number: Q71326 Article last modified on 05-24-1991 PSS database name: W_PowerPt

2.00

WINDOWS

Summary:

A slide image with a gradient shaded background may not print correctly in inverse gray scale on a notes page or handout. If Inverse Gray Scale is selected as a print option, then all the objects in the slide image – except for the gradient background – will print correctly at the opposite intensity. The gradient background will print looking exactly as it does when printed without the Inverse Gray Scale option selected.

Workaround

To receive a legible printout of your notes and handout pages without having to change your entire color scheme, try the following workaround:

  1. While in Slide view, choose Color Scheme from the Color menu.
  2. Change the background color to white.
  3. Lighten the degree of background shading so it also appears white.
  4. Apply the altered color scheme to the slides.
  5. Print the note pages/handouts with the Inverse Gray Scale option selected.

On the screen, your pale text and objects may be invisible or almost invisible against your white gradient background. When the notes and handout pages are printed, however, the Inverse Gray Scale option will cause the text and objects to be changed to darker colors. Because the pale background is still formatted as having a gradient shading, it will not change color or intensity. In this way, you will receive a printout of darker objects on a pale shaded background.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint for Windows version 2.00. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
