UAE or Divide by Zero Error When Changing Target Printer PSS ID Number: Q71323 Article last modified on 05-24-1991 PSS database name: W_PowerPt

WINDOWS

Summary:

You may receive either an Unrecoverable Application Error (UAE) or a Divide by Zero error message when you change the target printer setting in a presentation that was converted from PowerPoint for the Macintosh to PowerPoint for Windows.

When a Macintosh PowerPoint presentation, such as the COLUMBUS.PPT sample file, is converted to the Windows PowerPoint format, the Slide Setup dimensions may have been changed to a Custom Size containing unrealistic dimensions. For example, they may be negative numbers, or impossibly large, such as 1507.3 inches tall by 4236.9 inches wide. In this case, if the Slide Setup is not changed to Full Printer Page first, changing the target printer in Printer Setup may give either a UAE or a Divide by Zero error message.

To avoid this problem, be careful to check the settings in Slide Setup before changing the target printer in Printer Setup when you are working with a presentation that has been converted from PowerPoint for the Macintosh to PowerPoint for Windows.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint for Windows version 2.00 and the Microsoft PowerPoint Translator version 1.00. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
