Summary:

The following information contains methods for troubleshooting the alert message “Cannot open Printer Driver”:

  1. If you are using any Epson printer driver, make sure the line IOPL=YES or IOPL=EPSON appears in the CONFIG.SYS file. This line gives the Epson driver I/O privileges that it requires to function.

  2. If you are using any HP LaserJet printer driver, make sure the line IOPL=YES or IOPL=LASERJET appears in the CONFIG.SYS file. This line gives the LaserJet driver I/O privileges that it requires to function.

  3. Verify that a driver has been associated with the printer name being accessed.

    Using OS/2 Version 1.10, the procedure is as follows:

    1. Open the Control Panel.

    2. Choose Printer Connections from the Setup menu.

    3. Select the Drivers button.

    4. Verify that the desired driver is selected in the Existing Device Drivers list box.

    Using OS/2 Version 1.20, the procedure is as follows:

    1. Open the Print Manager.

    2. Choose Printers from the Setup menu.

    3. Select the Change button.

    4. Verify that the desired driver is selected in the list box of available drivers.

  4. Verify that the OS2.INI file contains the correct information.

    Using OS/2 1.10, the procedure is as follows:

    1. Open the Control Panel.

    2. Select Queue Connections from the Setup menu.

    3. Select the Enter button.

    Using OS/2 1.20, the procedure is as follows:

    1. Open the Print Manager.

    2. Select Queues from the Setup menu.

    3. Select the Change button.

    4. From the Change Queue dialog box, select the Change button.

    5. From the Queues dialog box, select the OK button.
