SUMMARY
Text files created on hardware platforms other than the IBM PC do not always terminate lines with a carriage-return and line feed action (ASCII decimal character 10). Instead, some terminate lines with simple carriage-returns (ASCII decimal character 13).
When such a file is loaded into Works, the program will see the carriage-returns, but will not use them to terminate lines. Instead, they will simply remain a nonvisible part of the file, and the file itself will appear uselessly disordered.
You can recover such a file by replacing all occurrences of the standalone carriage-returns with carriage-returns and line feeds. To do so, complete the following steps:
- Load the file in question.
- Choose the Replace option from the Select menu.
- In the Search For: field, type “^13” (without the quotation marks).
- In the Replace with: field, type “^10” (without the quotation marks).
- Choose “Replace All” and press ENTER.
Works will now search for all occurrences of carriage-returns without linefeeds, and replace them with the proper control character.
