No Help Messages for Custom Menu Names in Excel

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2 versions 2.20, 2.21, 3.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0

SUMMARY

It is currently not possible to add status-bar-command Help messages to menu names when using custom menus. For example, when you choose File from Microsoft Excel's default menu bar, the Help message "Open, close, save, or print document" displays in the lower-left corner of the Microsoft Excel window. Custom menu names do not allow you to display a Help message in this manner. Choosing commands within the pull-down menus does allow Help messages to be displayed.

MORE INFORMATION

It is possible to add Help messages to the command names. For more information on how to add help messages, see the guides listed in the Reference(s) section of this article.
