This article explains how to disable the Eject button on your CD-ROM disc drive using the Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX).

The MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions do not ignore eject requests from CD-ROM-aware applications. With most existing CD-ROM drives on the market, if you press the Eject button on the drive, the disc is ejected, regardless of any layers of software. However, some CD-ROM drives (for example, Philips) are “key lockable.”
Also, other CD-ROM drives (for example, Hitachi) have the ability to be locked using hardware. Such drives send a request to the original equipment manufacturer OEM/ISV CD-ROM device driver (the software layer between the hardware and MSCDEX). Contact the manufacturer or vendor for more information about hardware and software lock requests.
