SUMMARY

The appearance and location of text in Print Preview will drastically differ from the appearance and location shown in Galley View or Page View if the text has a tab stop to the right of the right indent. The difference that shows in Print Preview will appear only when the margins of the document are changed in Print Preview.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, a paragraph is set up with the right indent set at 2 inches and a tab stop set at 3 inches (placing a tab stop to the right of the right indent and then pressing TAB in that paragraph is the only way to get text to extend beyond the right paragraph indent). Text typed in this paragraph does not wrap until the characters reach the absolute right margin (which is around 20 inches).

When viewed in Print Preview, the document appears correctly with the text extending off the page to the right. However, if the margin icon is clicked and the right margin is adjusted, the text of the line that extends off the page will begin to wordwrap as if the tab character were not present. If the document is then viewed in Galley View or in Page View, the line of text still extends off the page to the right. This document prints as it appears in Print Preview, but in Galley View or Page View, it still appears as if the text extends past the right paragraph indent.
