SUMMARY
In the Works Spreadsheet module, dates may be left-aligned or appear in the wrong format (even though the cell is formatted with a date format), if you are using dates earlier than 1904. In Works, dates earlier than January 1, 1904, are treated as text.
As a result, to enter a pre-1904 date, type it in the format that you want it to appear.

Apple’s date system starts with the date January 1, 1904. To keep track of dates, Works uses serial numbers, where January 1, 1904, the first serial number, is 0. If you enter a date earlier than 1904, Works treats this date as text rather than as a date.
NOTE: Versions of Works earlier than 2.0 treat ALL dates as text.
