The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0 5.1

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, if a table cell is situated beneath at least two cells and is wider than the first cell above it, the top border of that cell will not appear correctly past the edge of the first cell above it, if the other cells above it have bottom borders. This is especially noticeable when the other cells have borders that are a different style.

To correct the problem, remove the bottom border from the cells above the cell that is not displaying its top border correctly.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, suppose that cells 1 and 2 in the following table have a single bottom border:

+—————+—————–+ |Cell 1 |Cell 2 | +—————+———+——-+ |Cell 3 | +————————-+

If a double top border is now applied to cell 3, that border will extend only across the bottom of cell 1, and will stop at the beginning of cell 2:

+—————+—————–+ |Cell 1 |Cell 2 | +===============+———+——-+ |Cell 3 | +————————-+

In this example, removing the bottom border from cell 2 would correct the problem.
