The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

The identifier paragraph for a Microsoft Excel worksheet selection must specify the Microsoft Excel worksheet area following the filename. The named Microsoft Excel worksheet area or the range of rows and columns (in R1C1 format) must follow the Excel source-file name and must be separated from the filename by an exclamation point. For example, if cells A1:A2 of a worksheet named “TEST” are Paste Linked into Word, the identifier paragraph will say the following:

Excel!<pathname>TEST!R1C1:R2C1 (<pathname> refers to the entire path name of the file.)

If the range of A1:A2 is named “Total”, the identifier paragraph will say the following:

Excel!TEST!Total

MORE INFORMATION

For information on the identifier paragraph format, see the “Paste Link Command” section in the “Reference to Microsoft Word” manual.

For a complete list of possible error messages while using the Link commands, refer to the “Reference to Microsoft Word” manual, Appendix C, pages 412-414.
