SUMMARY

At the top of Page 151 in the “Using Microsoft Word” manual for version 5.5 and at the top of Page 161 in the “Using Microsoft Word” manual for version 5.0, under the section titled “To specify handling of line numbers between divisions,” it states:

If you choose to add line numbers for division 1 and 3, but not for division 2, and you set division 3 to have Continuous line numbers, Word starts numbering division 3 where it left off in division 1.

This is not true. Line numbering for division 3 restarts at 1 even if division 3 (or divisions 3 and 1) is set at continuous line numbering. Continuous line numbering across divisions only works if the divisions are consecutive.
