SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Works 2.0 documents may open slowly over a network, especially when compared to other products, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
CAUSE
The reason for this behavior is twofold:
When you open Works, the entire program must be loaded into memory on the local workstation. Other products can dynamically allocate themselves, loading only necessary portions of the program.

Works loads files by using network commands in an inefficient manner, locking themselves to blocks of memory.
