WinWord: Starting Page Numbering with Numbers Greater Than One

Q50940

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SUMMARY

To print beginning pages of a document without page numbers, you must insert a section break between the last page without a number and the first page you want a number on. In the first section, do not include any page numbering. In the second section, start the page numbering with the number corresponding to the first page number of the second section.

If you want only the first page to be without a page number, check the Different First Page box in the Header/Footer dialog box. Choosing this option allows you to put a different header or footer on the first page. For example, you could leave the header or footer blank, or include a title.
