Summary:
In Microsoft Word for Windows, you can only split cells that were previously merged. Only one cell in a row can be split at a time. Multiple cells can be split at the same time if the cells are in different rows.

To split cells, use the the following procedure:
Word for Windows Version 2.0
- Select only cells that have been previously merged.
- From the Table menu, choose Split Cells.
Word for Windows Version 1.x
- Select only cells that have been previously merged.
- From the Edit menu, choose Table (ALT E A).
- Choose the Split Cells button (ALT+P).
