SUMMARY
When using network software from developers such as Novell, 3Com and Dayna to connect PC and Macintosh computers, error -39 or -43 may be received when opening or saving Microsoft Works version 2.00 files.
AppleShare sets server ID numbers for files on its volume to an integer between 0 (zero) and 65,536. Works limits itself to these integers. However, networks such as Novell, 3Com, and DaynaNet reserve 0 to 65,536 for PC files only and start numbering Macintosh files from 65,536. Any Macintosh application that restricts its ID number to the AppleShare ID range will receive error -43 when saving and error -39 when opening.
This issue has been addressed and fixed in Microsoft Works 2.00e.
