The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, versions 2.0 and 3.0

SUMMARY

In versions 2.0 and 3.0 of Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, when you copy a formula with a cell name in it and paste it into another cell, the reference acts as a relative reference.

MORE INFORMATION

To force a formula that refers to a named cell NOT change with movement, you must make it an absolute reference.

Example

  1. Begin with a value in cell A1, and name that cell “Interest.”

  2. Put the formula “=Interest+10” in cell B1.

  3. Copy the formula from cell B1 to B2. The formula in B2 now incorrectly reads =A2+10. To avoid this problem, you must precede the original formula with a dollar sign ($). This makes the formula absolute.

The above formula in step 2 should appear as follows:

    =$Interest+10
