SUMMARY
The Dvorak keyboard is a keyboard layout that allows for faster typing. For this keyboard to work properly with Word, the keys must be remapped. There are special drivers available through various sources that allow a standard keyboard to be accessed as a Dvorak version. These drivers were not tested with Word and require extensive access to the hardware, which may conflict with Word. A similar feature is available with SideKick +.
If problems are experienced with these keyboard drivers, there are two possible solutions:
- Reinstall Word using the Setup program. Select the safe keyboard support for use with TSRs option when asked to choose your computer.
- Remove the SCREEN.VID file. It can be either deleted or renamed to remove it from use. At this point, when Word is started, it will use BIOS calls to access both the video and keyboard. This will cause the video display to use only text mode, but a special Dvorak keyboard driver may then be used with Word.
