Excel: Unprotected Cells Do Not Print with Underline

Last reviewed: October 31, 1994
Article ID: Q50438

SUMMARY

Microsoft Excel versions 1.50 and earlier mark unlocked cells with a dotted underline when a protected document is printed. Excel 2.20, by design, does not print unlocked cells of a protected document with an underline.

To obtain a similar effect with Excel 2.20 and 3.00, apply a bottom border to the cells using the following steps (the document must be unprotected to perform this operation):

  1. Select the cells to be underlined.
  2. Select Border from the Format menu.
  3. Select Bottom.
  4. Click OK.
