The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0

SUMMARY

When using a table in Microsoft Word versions 4.0 and 5.0, aligning text right can cause the text in a cell to disappear. The text has aligned to the indents specified in the ruler and/or defined style. If the style for every cell in the table has been defined as a -.5 inch right indent, aligning right will force the text off of the visual limits of the table in every cell.

MORE INFORMATION

To temporarily correct this problem, do the following:

  1. Select the table (OPTION+double-click on a cell).
  2. Move the right indent in to agree with the right margin identifier (dotted vertical line on ruler).

To permanently correct this problem, redefine the Normal style (or style being used for the table) so it does not have a right indent defined as a negative number by using the following method:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Define Styles.
  2. Select Normal.
  3. Open the Format Paragraph box.
  4. Change the right indent to 0 (zero).
  5. Select OK.
  6. Select Define in the Define Styles box. (Also select Set Default if this is a Style in the default style sheet.)
  7. Choose Cancel to close the Define Styles dialog box.

This problem also occurs if the left indent is defined as a negative number and left alignment is selected.
