Hyphens may be placed next to the page number in the footer of an Excel for Windows version 3.0 or Excel for OS/2 version 2.2 and 3.0 document. To do this:

  1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.

  2. Type

    -&P–

    in the Footer text box.

The printed footer will look as follows:

-1-

More Information:

Excel 2.x

In Excel 2.x for Windows, you can get the same result by typing:

-&P—

Using a single hyphen after the page number makes Excel assume you want to subtract a number from the page number; the double hyphen that follows the single hyphen serves to cancel the first hyphen.
