MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, versions 2.0 and 3.0

Summary:

If you are using a supported color printer with version 2.0 of Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, you can use color printing to refine the appearance of bars, lines, markers, or pie slices in charts. However, printer drivers are available that also support printing text in color.

An application note titled “Support for Color Text Printing” is available from Microsoft Product Support Services by calling (206) 454-2030. This application note contains printer drivers for Works 2.0 that support color text printing on the printers listed below.

The drivers are also available in the Software/Data Library by searching on the keyword COLORDRV, the Q number of this article, or S12564. COLORDRV was archived using the PKware file-conversion utility.

The printer drivers in the application note allow the following printers to print color text from Works 2.0:

Printer Printer Driver ——- ————–

Anadex DP-9725 AND9725C.PRD Epson EX-800 and EX-1000 EPSONEXC.PRD Epson JX-80 EPSONJXC.PRD Epson LQ-2500 LQ2500C.PRD Epson LQ-2550 LQ2550C.PRD IBM Color Inkjet (draft quality) IBMCOLOR.PRD IBM Color Inkjet (near letter quality) IBMCLRLQ.PRD NEC P5XL, P6, P7, and P9XL NECC.PRD NEC P5200 and P5300 NEC5200C.PRD Okidata 292 and 293 OKI292C.PRD Star Micronics NX-1000 (Epson FX emulation) NX1000C.PRD Texas Instruments TI-857 TI857C.PRD

Support for color text printing is not available for any other printer supported by Works 2.0.

In Works 3.0, color text printing is supported as long as you use the correct printer driver for your color printer. The application note is only needed for Works 2.0. Works 1.x does not support color text printing.

For more information on modifying chart colors and for an explanation of software charting fonts, refer to pages 148-151 and 160 of the “Microsoft Works Reference” manual for Works 2.0.
