Changing Symbol Sets for HP’s Math8 Font

PSS ID Number: Q50117 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

4.00 5.00

The Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet “J” and “K” cartridges support the Math8, Math8A, and Math8B symbol sets. Word Versions 4.00 and 5.00 use the Math8 symbol set for the Math8 Font. To access the Math8A or Math8B symbol set, you need to modify the printer driver HPLASER2.PRD.

Use Word’s MAKEPRD program to convert the printer driver to a text file. Load the text file into Word and find the Math8 font description, which is font number 59. In the following beginmod sequence

beginmod:0 “[(8M[(s5t8vsb1P^[&k10H”

the “8M” needs to be replaced with the following:

“0Q” for the Math8A symbol set

“1Q” for the Math8B symbol set

Save the text file and convert it back into a printer driver with the MAKEPRD program. Use this edited printer driver in Word and format the specific characters with the Math8 Font.
