Summary:

Certain 80386 machines may hang while using the EFIS/CFPD in Flight Simulator versions 4.00 and 4.00a.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Flight Simulator versions 4.00 and 4.00a. This problem was corrected in Flight Simulator version 4.00b.

Below is a correction that can be made to the Flight Simulator program file that allows the EFIS/CFPD system to function correctly on certain 80386 machines.

More Information:

To repair the Flight Simulator program file yourself, do the following:

  1. Copy DEBUG.COM from your DOS directory into your FLTSIM4 directory, as shown below. If DEBUG.COM has not been installed on your system, it can be found on the DOS Utility disk that came with the computer.

    COPY .COM .COM

  2. Type the following to repair FS4.EXE, and press ENTER:

    RENAME FS4.EXE FS4.OLD DEBUG FS4.OLD ECS:b33c 90 90 90 90 90 W Q RENAME FS4.OLD FS4.EXE

  3. Remove DEBUG.COM from the Flight Simulator directory (not mandatory) by typing the following:

    DEL .COM
