Cutting Off Text When Printing on LaserWriter

Last reviewed: July 30, 1997
Article ID: Q49294

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0

SUMMARY

With Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, and the Apple LaserWriter, the spacing between characters is increased and the text on the printout may be cut off when the following conditions apply:

  • The Courier font is being used (especially in the smaller point sizes).
  • Fractional Widths is turned on.
  • The Larger Print Area option is turned on.
  • The margins are set less than .5 inch.

This is a limitation of the LaserWriter printer driver. To work around this problem, turn off Fractional Widths or turn off Larger Print Area and increase the margins to .5 inch.
