PSS ID Number: Q49291 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0

You can use tables to print labels horizontally rather than vertically in Microsoft Word versions 4.0 and 5.0 by doing the following:

  1. In the main document, set up the labels within the cells of a table, with each cell containing a label definition.
  2. The number of columns of labels desired should be controlled by the number of columns in the table. Set the section to 1 column.
  3. Choose Print Merge, and the table will be filled left to right rather than top to bottom.

For example, to set up 1-inch labels in three columns (27 labels per page), do the following:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Section.
  2. In the Columns box, set Number to 1, and click the OK button.
  3. Create a table that has three columns and nine rows.
  4. Enter a label definition into each cell.
  5. Highlight the table.
  6. From the Format menu, choose Cells.
  7. Set Minimum Row Height to -1 inch (or -72 points). Click OK.
  8. From the File menu, choose Print Merge.
