PowerPoint: Can Recolor Only Eight Colors at a Time PSS ID Number: Q49079 Article last modified on 01-04-1991 PSS database name: M_PowerPt

Summary:

Microsoft PowerPoint versions 2.00 and 2.01 can recolor a maximum of eight colors in a picture. Therefore, if a graphic is imported into PowerPoint and contains more than eight colors, only eight of them can initially be recolored. However, by recoloring one or more of the eight colors to one of the remaining seven colors, the total number of different colors in the scheme may be decreased, allowing access to additional colors that were previously inaccessible.

For example, if a graphic is imported into PowerPoint that contains nine colors, one of them being RD4 (Red #4), RD4 may not appear in the Recolor Picture dialog because there are more than eight colors in the total scheme.

However, if one of the eight displayed colors is recolored by changing it to RD4 (or to any of the remaining seven displayed colors in the scheme), a total of eight colors will then remain in the scheme instead of nine, allowing all the colors to be changed.
