PSS ID Number: Q48996 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

====================================================================== 4.00 5.00 5.10 MACINTOSH kbprint kbole ——————————————————————- The information in this article applies to:

  • == Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 ==

SUMMARY

If you get the message “Table improperly placed in Data Document” while executing a print merge in Microsoft Word, some text probably occurs before the table in the data document.

Check to see if any hidden text occurs before the table by turning on Show Hidden Text in the Preferences dialog box (on the Edit menu).

CAUSE

This error can occur when data is pasted into a Word document from Excel version 2.20 with the Paste Link command. Word automatically pastes the QuickSwitch information on the line above the table and formats it as hidden text. If Display Hidden Text is Off, you cannot automatically see this information.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, remove all text outside the table.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1. This problem was corrected in Word for the Macintosh version 6.0.
