SUMMARY

In Word Versions 3.x, 4.00, and 5.00, the following two mouse-related problems may occur:

  1. When you move the mouse pointer into the command menu area, the computer may start beeping repeatedly. This may be caused by the mouse button being stuck down or the switch being shorted.
  2. When you try to enter text in Edit mode, the computer may beep upon each key press. If you have a bus mouse, you may have a bad mouse card.

To determine if the mouse is causing the problem in each of these instances, disable the mouse driver in either the CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT file, and then reboot the computer. Run Word again to see if you now can type text and select menu commands. If so, the mouse is defective.
