The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS versions 3.0, 3.1, 3.11, 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0

SUMMARY

In Word versions 3.0, 3.10, 3.11, and 4.0, text that is formatted with the hidden table code and located in a running head or footnote cannot be included in a table of contents with the Library Table command.

In Word versions 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, text in a footnote cannot be included in a table of contents, but running head text can be included. However, the only page number indicated for the text will be the first page number on which the running head appears.

To include the text in the table of contents, copy the text plus the table code from the running head or footnote into the main part of the document (on the same page where it will appear), and format all of it as hidden text. When the table of contents is compiled, it will be included as an entry with the corresponding page number of its location. Character formatting (in this case, the hidden text) is not transferred into the table of contents.
