SUMMARY

Word printer drivers are set up to take advantage of font-specific bolding. If a document has bold formatting, but it is not printing bold, the printer probably does not contain the bold font. To work around this problem, remove the beginBoldmod and endBoldmod escape codes from the font description. The printer driver then uses the shadow printing bold command located at byte:128 in the PCSD section.

The Xerox 4045 has two ways of bolding characters: font-specific bolding and shadow printing.

In font-specific bolding, each font in Word may have a separate font on the printer for normal face and another for bold face. Shadow printing prints each character twice, the second character being displaced two dots to the right of the first, thus achieving a bold effect.
