The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 SUMMARY Word version 5.1 To change the settings for the Make Backup Files or Fast Save Enabled options in Microsoft Word, do the following: From the Tools menu, choose Commands. Select Make Backup Files or Fast Save Enabled from the commands list. Click the Do button. The selected option can be toggled on or off by clicking the Do button. These settings will remain in effect for all files until the option is changed again. Word versions 4.0, 5.0 To change the settings for the Make Backup Files or Fast Save Enabled options in Microsoft Word, do the following: From the Edit menu, choose Commands. Select Make Backup Files or Fast Save Enabled from the commands list. Click the Do button. The selected option can be toggled on or off by clicking the Do button. These settings will remain in effect for all files until the option is changed again. Note: If the Make Backup Files option is turned on so that Word makes a backup file every time the document is saved, Word will not save a file using Fast Save even though the Fast Save Enabled option may be selected. Word version 3.0x Because Word 3.0x does not have custom menus, the only way to turn off Fast Save is to select Make Backup in the Save As dialog box. If Make Backup is deselected, the Fast Save option will be checked again after a normal save is made.
