The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0 - Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, versions 1.1, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

Whenever a task’s Duration is changed, the Actual Work field is reduced to match the new resulting % Complete.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior occurs when Auto Track Resources is on. Changes to Duration, Actual Duration, Resource Duration, or % Complete will not change the Actual Work field to reflect the change in any of the above.

To re-create this, do the following:

  1. Enter a task and assign a resource.
  2. Change the Duration to 5d.
  3. Set % Complete to 10%. Actual Work=4h.
  4. Change the Duration to 6d.

Actual Work will still = 4h whereas the % Complete has changed to reflect the change in Duration.
