SUMMARY

The – (em dash) character is created in Word version 5.00 by pressing CTRL + ALT + - (HYPHEN).

When using the Search or Replace command to find an em dash, you must use ALT+15. CTRL + ALT + - (HYPHEN) does not work correctly in this instance.

To search for an em dash character in Word version 5.50, choose Replace from the Edit menu and type “^15” in the Text To Search For box.
