Word 5.00: Documents Corrupted with Expanded Memory

PSS ID Number: Q47802 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

5.00 5.50 6.00

MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, versions 5.0, 5.5, 6.

SUMMARY

If you are using expanded memory and Word Version 5.00 documents fail to load correctly, the expanded memory may not be set up correctly in the computer. To check if this is the case, start Word with the /X switch (type WORD/X), which disables Word’s expanded memory usage.

The symptoms of this problem are documents not loading at all, documents loading with strange characters everywhere, and parts of other documents being put into the wrong document.

Make sure that expanded memory is set up correctly in the computer using the proper memory manager installed with the CONFIG.SYS file. Make sure that the expanded memory card is set up to work correctly with the particular computer being used. Contact the manufacturer of the memory card for support in properly setting it up.
