SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, you may be unable to view all of the resource names for a project in the drop-down list on the entry bar of a task view.

Note that this is a general limitation with any drop-down list in Microsoft Project.

CAUSE

The number of resources displayed in a drop-down list depends on your version of Microsoft Project and the length of the resource name.

1.x 60 2000 3.x 100 9999 4.00 100 9999

WORKAROUND

If a resource is not displayed in the drop-down list, use any of the following methods to assign the resource to a task:

  • If you are using Microsoft Project version 4.0, use the Resource Assignment dialog box to display all available resources (to display the Resource Assignment dialog box, click the Resource Assignment button on the Standard toolbar).

    -or-

  • Type the resource name in the Resource Names field (Task Sheet or Gantt Chart).

    -or-

  • Enter the ID number for the resource in the ID field (Task Form).
