Excel: Open Mail and Send Mail Functions

Last reviewed: November 2, 1994

SUMMARY

If Microsoft Mail version 2.00 or 3.00 is installed, Microsoft Excel versions 2.20 and 3.00 display the commands Open Mail and Send Mail on the File menu.

The Send Mail Command

When the Send Mail command is chosen from the File menu, the active Excel file (worksheet, macro sheet, or chart) becomes an enclosure for the mail message. Mail 2.00 and 3.00 display a Send window where the name of the active Excel file is displayed in the subject field. You can then address the message, check Return Receipt, and include comments before sending.

Note that since the Excel file becomes an enclosure, a special Excel icon is used for the flashing menu bar notifier and in the receipts mailbox.

The Open Mail Command

When the Open Mail command is chosen from the File menu, your Mail Document window opens; it displays only messages sent from within Excel. To open a message, double-click a message title, or select the message title and click the Open button.

Excel automatically opens the worksheet, macro sheet, or chart and displays a comment window.

Note that the message is not deleted from your mailbox when you manually select the message from the File Open Mail dialog box.
