File: Cannot Select Record Using OR Criteria Between Fields

Last reviewed: October 27, 1994
Article ID: Q47525

Summary:

You cannot select records using OR syntax between fields in Microsoft File. That is to say, there is no way within the Find command to select records in which one field is equal to a value OR in which another field is equal to another value.

One workaround for an OR operation is to do the following:

  1. Select all records that satisfy the criteria for Field A.
  2. From the File menu, choose Save Records As, and select Normal.
  3. Return to the original file.
  4. Select all records that satisfy the criteria for Field B, copy the records, and paste them into the data file you saved in step 2.
