SUMMARY

Word versions 5.00 and 5.50 directly support manual feeding if this feature is supported by the printer. Manual feeding allows you to send the complete job to the printer while freeing up the computer’s processor for performing additional tasks. It is not necessary to return to the computer to indicate whether to feed the next sheet of paper; the printer automatically prompts for the next sheet of paper. This feature is particularly useful in network situations where the printer may be in another location. The Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet and DeskJet, among other printers, support this feature.

Note: Word version 4.00 supports manual feeding, but requires you to press Y for each new page within Word.

Word determines if this feature is supported by the printer by the contents at bytes 116 and 120 in the PCSD table of the printer driver. If there is nothing at these locations, Word stops and prompts you for the next page. If there is an escape sequence at those locations, Word sends the entire print job, and the printer prompts for the next page.
