SUMMARY

To manually set up Word to support the IBM 8514/A graphics card under MS-DOS, you must do the following:

  1. Copy EGA.SYS and MOUS8514.SYS from the Word Program #1 disk to your hard disk.

  2. Add the lines DEVICE=C:.SYS and DEVICE=C:8514.SYS to the CONFIG.SYS file in this order.

Note: The EGA.SYS and MOUS8514.SYS files are for use in MS-DOS only. These are not to be used under OS/2.

  3. Copy MAKEVID.EXE, IBM8514.CSD, and IBM8514.GSD from the Word Utilities #2 disk to your Word 5.00 directory.

  4. At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:

    MAKEVID IBM8514.VID -Lfr IBM8514.CSD -Lfr IBM8514.GSD

  5. At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:

    COPY IBM8514.VID SCREEN.VID

  6. Delete any MW.INI file that may be in your Word 5.00 directory.

  7. Reboot your computer by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.

After your computer has rebooted, you may start Word. For Word to work in graphics mode with the 8514/A, the IBM utility HDILOAD.EXE must be run prior to starting Word. This file is located on the disk that comes with the 8514/A. For more information regarding the HDILOAD.EXE file, refer to your IBM 8514/A documentation.

MORE INFORMATION

Word does not support the 8514/A running as an 8514/A when Word is run under OS/2. Instead, Word supports the 8514/A as a VGA when Word is run under OS/2. Support for the 8514/A under OS/2 is being considered for future versions of Word.

To manually set up Word to support the IBM 8514/A as a VGA when running under OS/2, you must do the following:

  1. Switch to the DOS box.

  2. Copy MAKEVID.EXE, VGA.CSD, VIO.CSD, and VGA.GSD from the Word Utilities #2 disk.

  3. Type the following:

    MAKEVID VGA.VID -Lfr VGA.CSD -Lfp VIO.CSD -Lfs VGA.GSD

  4. Type the following:

    COPY VGA.VID SCREEN.VID

  5. Add the line IOPL=YES to the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file if the line is not already present in the CONFIG.SYS file.

  6. Delete any MW.INI file that may be in your Word 5.00 directory.

  7. Reboot your computer by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.

After your computer has rebooted, you may start Word. You will have eight VGA video modes available.
