Number of Lines Per Page Can Vary with Widow Control

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, Widow control prevents a single line from being separated from the rest of a paragraph by a page break. To ensure the same number of lines occurs on every page, regardless of where paragraphs begin and end, turn off the Widow control option.

Word Version 4.0 and later

To turn off Widow control in Word, go to the Format menu and choose Document. In the Document dialog box, turn the Widow Control option off. If you wish to change this setting so that all new documents open with Widow control off, also click the Use As Default (Set Default in Word 4.0) button in the Document dialog box.

Word Version 3.x

To turn off Widow control in Word 3.x, go to the File menu and choose Page Setup. In the Page Setup dialog box, turn the Widow control option off. To change thhis setting so that all new documents open with Widow control off, also click the Set Default button in the page Setup dialog box.
