SUMMARY
In Microsoft Works for MS-DOS 2.0, a blank line or space occurs when printing mailing labels with the Print Labels command if a blank field is encountered in the Database. This contradicts what is implied on Page 76 of the “Microsoft Works Reference” manual.
Microsoft Works for MS-DOS 3.0 suppresses blank lines when printing mailing labels. In Works 2.0, you can use the following procedures to suppress blank lines or spaces in a mailing label:
If you are using a dot-matrix or daisy-wheel printer, and you are printing on labels where there is only one label across the page width, do the following:
Change the page size in Print, Page Setup, and Margins to be the same height as the labels.
Change the top and bottom margins to 0 (zero).
Perform a Print Form Letters instead of a Print Labels.
If you are using a laser printer, or are printing on labels with more than one label across a page, do the following:
Sort the Database records on the field that has blank entries. This sort puts these records at the end of the record list.
Hide these records so that they are not accessed in the print merge.
Perform the print merge.
Hide the set of printed records and show the records that were previously hidden.
Eliminate the blank field placeholder from the print merge main document in the Word Processor.
Perform the print merge. No blank lines or spaces occur.
