The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, versions 2.0 and 3.0

SYMPTOMS

The following error message may be displayed when you try to print a word processing document containing a chart placeholder:

Spreadsheet not open: continue printing?

A similar message can occur when previewing the same type of document:

Spreadsheet not open: <filename>:<chartname>

CAUSE

The Spreadsheet file that contains that chart is not open, or has been renamed. For example if you insert a chart from an unsaved spreadsheet, the placeholder reference will be to SHEETx.WKS, where x is a number. If the spreadsheet is then saved under a different name, the chart will not print or preview from the Word Processing document, and will display the above error messages.

RESOLUTION

Choose OK (press ENTER) to continue printing without the chart. To print the document with the chart, do the following:

  1. Choose Cancel (press ESC) to stop the print job or preview.
  2. Open the Spreadsheet file containing the chart.
  3. Switch back to the Word Processing document.
  4. If the name of the spreadsheet has changed, delete the current chart placeholder and reinsert the chart.
  5. Print the document.
