Excel: Cell Shading Lost If Copied/Linked with Word 4.00

Last reviewed: October 31, 1994
Article ID: Q46515

SUMMARY

When copying an Excel version 2.20 or 3.00 worksheet selection into Microsoft Word version 4.00, Word creates a table of formatted values of the selection. If the cells are shaded in Excel 2.20, they are copied into a cell in the table without the shading. This action occurs because Microsoft Word does not currently support a format for shading cells in a table.

This loss of shading also occurs while using QuickSwitch. The selection is copied but cells that were shaded are no longer shaded in Word when copying a worksheet selection, then switching into Microsoft Word 4.00, and selecting Paste Link from the Edit menu.
