Word: Text Cut Off on #10 Envelope with LaserWriter Driver 6.0

PSS ID Number: Q46429 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1

SUMMARY

When using LaserWriter Driver version 6.0 and Word, the minimum margins required so that text will not be cut off when using the No. 10 Envelope paper option are as follows:

Top: 2.4 in Bottom: 2.4 in Left: 1 in Right: 1 in

The envelope must then be fed directly down the middle of the LaserWriter Feed slot. When using a LaserWriter or a LaserWriter Plus, you might want to tape an envelope to a letter size piece of paper and then feed it through. When printing to LaserWriter II series printers, there is a manual feed guide that can be adjusted so that the envelope will automatically be centered.

MORE INFORMATION

The LaserWriter driver appears to use a letter size piece of paper as a template, yet it does not print outside of a standard envelope’s total print area. If you specify margins less than those stated above, Word will attempt to print in this area; however, the LaserWriter driver will not allow characters outside of the envelope area, thereby cutting off any text outside.
