MACINTOSH

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, and 4.0

Summary:

When you transfer text (ASCII) files from an MS-DOS- or Windows-based system to Word for the Macintosh, each line of text may come across as a separate paragraph, requiring a time-consuming global search-and-replace procedure.

Note: This problem does not occur with Word versions 5.0 or later.

More Information:

Word Versions 5.0 and 5.1

Use the Text With Layout option when converting the file. This option allows Word to translate the file properly.

Word Version 4.0

To avoid manual revision, open the file in MacWrite. MacWrite gives you the option of interpreting carriage returns as linefeeds or paragraph breaks. If you indicate linefeeds and then save the file, this format is retained when the file is opened in Word for the Macintosh.
